What Is SLYEF?

The SynthLeaf Young Engineers Competition is an opportunity for students within the field to learn and gain real world experience. Through provided resources students will learn product development and professional skills that will prepare them for real world engineering scenarios.

What is the Competition

We are hosting a 2-phase competition to give young engineers chance to show off their skills and learn real world applications of engineering skills. Competitors will learn technical development skills through hands on mentorship from SynthLeaf team members.

Prompt

Design a solution to a simple everyday problem you face

Phase 1: May 31st - July 31st

Competitors will design a solution with proper technical documentation and BOM files. On August 1st the SynthLeaf founders will select the top projects to move on to phase 2.

Phase 2: August 5th - October 31s

The second phase allows the top projects to utilize SynthLeaf modules to construct their project and compete to earn prizes like merch, more electronic modules, and other fun awards.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Competitors under the age of 18 are allowed teams of up to 3 total members. This is to ensure balance between younger engineers and more experienced participants since there is only one track.

  • After judging is complete for phase 1 the winners will receive a kit containing electronic modules to help aide the development of their project.

  • No, if you want you can drop out after winning phase 1. However, it’s strongly encouraged to continue for a chance to win more prizes and for more mentorship!

  • Engineers will be judged based of Quality, Creativity, Technical Development, Documentation, and Professionalism. (rubric provided on sign up)
